As mentioned in my report for Monday, I expected to hear about the opening of coho season on the Icicle River very soon, and it happened. Anglers will be able to fish the very popular area of the Icicle that is 500 feet below the Leavenworth National Fish Hatchery, and if I am reading it right, an area further upstream that I don’t recall being open before. That is from the shoreline markers where Cyo Road intersects the Icicle at the Sleeping Lady Resort to the Icicle Peshastin Irrigation Footbridge, approximately 750 feet upstream from the Snow Lakes Trailhead. Also, the minimum size of the coho you can retain is 12 inches. Fishing with bait, including scents and flavors is prohibited. There is a night closure in effect as well. Barbed hooks are allowed, but not the two pole endorsement. The river level in the Icicle is like last year at this time. We will need some rain and colder weather to raise the level of the river to encourage fish to move up the Wenatchee and into the Icicle. When that happens, I expect the fishing to be the best it has ever been. It’s going to be fun!
