The Chelan County PUD was always a big supporter and participant in the Wenatchee River Salmon Festival when it was being held at the National Fish Hatchery in Leavenworth. In recent years they have picked up the ball and ran with it, hosting the event at Rocky Reach Dam. Salmon Fest was famous for its “edutainment” of youngsters about the life cycles of salmon and their importance to our region. After seeing the event for the first time I never missed a year. I even served on the board of Salmon Fest for several years. I am very pleased with what Chelan County PUD has done to carry on this great event. It truly is something that the whole family can enjoy—and it’s free! Salmon Fest will take place this Saturday, September 21st at Rocky Reach Dam Park in the Special Events area starting at 10 a.m. Also open at the same time is the Discovery Center, that has many interactive displays the kids will love, and you can watch returning salmon and steelhead through the viewing windows here, too. I can’t think of a better way for families to spend a Saturday than at Salmon Fest.
