By Dave Graybill

I know a lot of folks are checking the fish counts over Bonneville Dam on a daily basis. I always do when the opening of salmon season gets near. It looks like we are going to have a pretty good season for summer salmon and the sockeye numbers are better than last year. I think we are going to have a great sockeye season on the Columbia. I hope that the Columbia settles down a bit before the first of the month. Hight water can be a real issue for those who fish below Wanapum Dam. The water spilling down the chute creates some huge standing waves. Last year I ran up to Wells once to fish for sockeye after a morning of salmon fishing at Chelan Falls and it was like being out it the ocean. The concern about Brewster is that the cool weather has prevented the thermal barrier from forming off the Okanogan and fish are going shoot through. Anyway, it will be a good idea to get to the seminar at Bob Feil Boats and Motors on Tuesday, June 28th, starting at 6. Austin Moser should have some good advice on fishing for summer salmon and sockeye

Things can get hectic when the sockeye fishing is good in the Brewster Pool.
