By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime. Of course, that's only if the fish are willing. Several years ago I set my mind on a goal to catch a King salmon in the Columbia River in the stretch near downtown Wenatchee. I tried everything I could think of. I talked to old timers about their favorite holes from back in the day. Yet, 20-times I went out at first light and 20-times I came back with nothing. I was by myself, so there was no one to blame but me. I threw my entire tackle box at the critters and could not coax a bite. Finally, on the 21st trip, I stared in disbelief as the rod tip lurched up and down with a fighting King on the other end shortly after I put the bait in the water. The fish ran. I reeled. It ran. I reeled. Floating downstream with the fish, I finally got it in the net. It was ugly, but the prettiest prize ever. If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Until next time, Good Fishing!
