By Dave Graybill

Unseasonably warm temperatures have led to rapid snow melt and high water levels in our area streams and rivers. Wildfires over the past two years have added to the amount of dead logs, limbs and debris, creating a recipe full of headaches for anglers and boaters alike. Be cautious on our area rivers and especially on Lake Chelan. I was there a couple weekends ago with my parents and our path running up-lake from the Mill Bay boat launch was littered with woody debris. This can not only play havoc with your prop and poke a hole in your boat if you’re not careful, but can also trip your downriggers and foul lines while trolling. So, just keep your eyes on the water in front of your boat besides the rod tips looking for bites. We were able to catch 7 nice Kokanee on our trip ranging in size from 10- to 12-inches. Yellow and Orange Hoochies from Mack’s Lure were the trick at 60- and 80-feet deep off Monument and the State Park from 200 yards off shore to the middle of the lake.
