There is a pattern emerging for anglers that like to both fish for kokanee and walleye. Actually it has been going for some time this spring. Some anglers travel to Lake Roosevelt and launch at Spring Canyon. From there they troll for kokanee and this year it doesn’t take too long to get a two fish limit of them that are usually 17 to 19 inches. Then they pull the boat out and head for Banks Lake. Here anglers spend the balance of the day fishing for walleye. It has not been unusual for people to put a limit of kokanee and walleye in the cooler each day. Now that is what I call maximizing your time on the water. The way things have been going I think that anglers can continue doing this for months to come. There is no sign of the kokanee bite at Lake Roosevelt slowing down. The fish will only go deeper this summer. The walleye fishing at Banks was excellent last year and there is no reason it won’t be again this year. I have seen some whoppers taken at Banks. One angler turned in a walleye over 11 pounds on the first day of the Triple Fish Challenge. He let it go, too.
