Make sure the boat runs. Sharpen your hooks. Summer run salmon season on opens July 1st on the upper Columbia and I hope you are ready! The forecast is for 93,000 summer runs to our region this year, and so far they are coming at a pace that is way over the ten year average for this time of year. In fact they are coming as fast or faster than last year when we blew the forecast out of the water. No matter where the final count lands we should have great fishing on the opener. I expect the catches to be good below Wanapum, where anglers usually do well on the opening day. There have been improvements to the parking area below Wanapum Dam, and Grant County also added a brand new launch on the other side of the river below the dam on Huntzinger Road a couple of years ago. I expect to see a lot of boats in the Wenatchee area fishing Walla Walla Point and the Douglas County side of the river. Good catches of hatchery fish can be made at Chelan Falls again this year. So get you Super Baits tied up and your tuna ready and got get ‘em.
