By Dave Graybill

My daughter Whitney was in town for a short visit, and when she comes she always wants to fish at Banks Lake. We started fishing here for smallmouth bass years ago, and last year she tried walleye fishing for the first time. Her first fish was 26 inches. She was hooked. We launched at Northrup and headed into an area of the Punch Bowl that my brother Rick had suggested. I put the lines out and not long after saw one rod taking some deep bounces. I grabbed it, set the hook and handed her the rod. I wasn’t sure what she had, but it was big. I took at least three deep runs and she really had her hands full fighting this fish. We both yelled when it came up close enough for us to see. It was a walleye and a huge one. I got it in the boat and quickly took a photo and measured the fish. It was 30 inches long and I estimated it to weigh 9 pounds, and we put it back into the water. The big fish hit the Dutch Fork Blue Tiger Turtle Back blade that has worked so well for me all year. We got 13 more fish that day, all on the same blade.
