The big news is the opening of the Wenatchee and Entiat rivers to steelhead fishing. The Methow and Wells Dam area are now closed but there are other areas of the Columbia River that are now open, too. Please visit my fishingmagician.com Facebook page to see all the details. I traveled to Pateros for the seminars last Thursday and the next morning my fishing buddy Rollie Schmitten and I took my boat to Bridgeport to try the steelhead fishing. There was just one other boat on this stretch of river and after a couple of fruitless floats near the bridge, we dropped down to our favorite drift below the sandy beach. We were fishing with bobbers and jigs, baited with shrimp, and found some biters in here. We each landed a fish and both were keepers. His fish jumped three times! Schmitten hooked another one but it slipped the hook. We gave the stretch near the Blow Hole a try but the current died and we gave it up. I have hooked seven fish up here on two trips and five of them have been hatchery fish. Not a bad ratio, so far. Fishing will get even better at Pateros and Bridgeport as water temperatures continue to cool.
