It’s a busy day in the Seep Lakes Wildlife Area of the Columbia Wildlife Refuge. The April Fools opener greets hundreds of anglers each year to sample the many lakes for their great rainbow trout and spiny ray fishing. Some of the best lakes in the state reside within the boundaries of these wildlife areas and have for decades treated anglers to early season thrills. I want to remind folks that two of the annual favorites for trout anglers, Upper and Lower Hampton lakes, will not have trout in them this year. They were rehabbed last fall and haven’t yet been planted with trout fry. However, both North and South Teal lakes should be particularly good. I have had good success on Canal Lake on opening day, and I am always surprised to hear about the number or really big trout taken from Corral Lake, which is just across the road from Mar Don Resort. You don’t hear much about the Bob Cat and Coyote Creek lakes, but they are loaded with largemouth bass, bluegill and crappie. Be ready to catch anything when you visit this area, and don’t even leave home without first getting your new fishing license for the year!
