In most years our winters put enough snow in the Wenatchee Heights to prevent fishing in the lakes up there on the opening weekend. Beehive Reservoir, Lilly and Clear lakes are popular with the folks in the Wenatchee Valley and they often have to wait a week or two for the Forest Service to open the roads and the Department of Fish and Wildlife to get up and plant them. However, it looks like access will be fine to all of these lakes for the opening weekend. Beehive and Clear Lake are particularly good bets for the opener as they most likely will be loaded with fresh plants but are also known for producing some very nice carryover rainbow as well. Also, the Department of Fish and Wildlife has announced that Upper Wheeler Reservoir has been designated a fly fishing only lake. An agreement has been made with the Wenatchee Heights Reclamation District, the department and the Wenatchee Valley Fly Fishers, who will be providing the maintenance to the site. It is also stipulated that this is a catch and release fishery for all trout species. Upper Wheeler will open on this basis starting April 25th through June 30th.
