There is good news for fans of trout fishing here in Central Washington. The Colville Tribe has announced another release of triploid rainbow into Rufus Woods Reservoir. On April 21st they released 9,600 triploids and they averaged 2 pounds. You may recall that there was another release in late March. At that time the number of triploids they put into Rufus Woods was 5,500. So, if you are looking for a place where you have a very good chance of catching a bunch of hefty rainbow, Rufus Woods would be the place to try. Remember though, the limit is two fish and if you use bait you must keep the first two you land. Here’s some more good news for anglers. Those who like to fish the Wind River and Drano Lake for hatchery Chinook and steelhead can now use barbed hooks. This is in effect now through June 30th. Please refer to the WDFW news release for the exact details on this rule change and the boundaries. The change was made possible as sampling showed few wild steelhead and Chinook are handled from mid-March through June. Surplus hatchery Chinook are available for harvest.
