Last Saturday I traveled to Potholes Reservoir. My friend Brian Nielson of BJs Guide Service had been trying to get me down there to try for the big trout that come on the bite in the early spring on the big reservoir. I had seen some photos of them on the Mar Don Resort web site and couldn’t wait to try for some myself. Nielson had caught some huge trout between the launch and the Mar Don docks here last year, and although we were in only about 12 feet of water, we marked quite a few fish, and actually hooked and lost a nice fish. We took a break for an hour or so to try for walleye. There were several boats scattered around in the middle of the lake above Goose Island. We stopped when we found some fish, put the bow mount on anchor mode and started jigging. This time the luck was with me and the blade bait that Brian gave me worked. I hadn’t been jigging that long when a good fish hit. I got it to the net and it turned out to be a 19-inch walleye. The walleye bite is just getting rolling on Potholes and I am eager to get back there.
