The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife is asking for the help of anglers here in Central Washington in an effort to collect hatchery steelhead at their facility in Ringold. Due to a shortage of fry from the Wells Dam hatchery, they are initiating an “Angler Broodstock Collection” effort. The goal is to get 200 adult hatchery steelhead for rearing. Over the next two weekends, March 21st and 22nd, and March 28th and 29th, anglers are invited to fish from the bank or from a boat near the facility. The department will have staff at the Ringold primitive boat launch and patrolling shorelines on the dates mentioned. A fish transport vehicle will be parked at the boat launch to collect live adult hatchery steelhead and take them to Ringold for spawning. Those who wish to participate can get more information by contacting Paul Hoffarth at 509-545-2284. There will be information posted at Ranch and Home in Kennewick as well. The complete news release with all the details can be viewed on my Facebook page: FishingMagician dot com. I hope to be able to get down here and help out, too. Hope to see you there!
