I got a message from a regular at Rufus Woods saying that he felt that most of fish from the last release had been caught. It sure appears that the fishing has slowed down, but it is about to take a serious turn for the better. According to sources with the Colville hatchery, a release of 900 triploids is to take place this week. This is very exciting in that fish are at least the size of the fish in the last release, and maybe larger. Most of the fish will be in the 4- to 5-pound class, but some will be 7 or 8 pounds. The release will take place at the upper end of the reservoir, so anglers that like to fish above Chief Joseph Dam will be seeing them in a week or so. I want to remind anglers that the fish in the last release and the next one are all provide by the Colville Tribe. The previous release was with fish they purchased from a net operation that is closing, and the current release are from triploids raised at the Colville hatchery in Bridgeport. The continued good fishing at Rufus Woods Reservoir is all due to the tribe. The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife does not contribute fish to Rufus Woods, other than those that come from Lake Roosevelt, where the tribe and the WDFW jointly raise and release three quarters of a million triploids.
