If you want to get in on the fall fishing for big kings below Wanapum Dam, better get to it. The season closed on the upper Columbia on the 15th, but remains open until October 22nd below Wanapum. There are thousands of kings in the river. Over 460,000 have passed over Bonneville Dam this year and there are more coming. Over 31,000 kings have passed over Priest Rapids Dam, with two to six hundred a day still coming. Only 8,500 have been counted at Rock Island Dam and just 5,800 at Rocky Reach. There are still a ton of kings coming up the river. I thought I might see an extension to the seasons on the upper Columbia, due to the very large return of fall fish this year, but so far, no word. Limits are being taken regularly at White Bluffs and at Vernita and now, and it will get even hotter as the end of the season approaches. The last days of the season will be amazing. I am being told that there is about 50-50 mix of dark to bright fish being taken right now, too. There some really big fish being taken now as well.
