Good news for fans of trout fishing at Fish Lake, near Lake Wenatchee. The ice is off! Some of the best fishing of the year can be had right now. There are plenty of rainbow that have avoided the hooks of ice anglers through the winter and they will be eager to swat hooks. This is a great place to take the family for early season fishing. If you want to actually see the ice leave the lake (no kidding), just log onto lakewenatcheeinfo.com. Go to the Fish Lake Time Lapse and dial it back to March 22nd. It is really cool to watch the ice disappear! Another lake that I am keeping an eye on is Patterson, near Winthrop. This is a dandy winter lake since it opened to ice fishing a couple of years ago, and while we go there for the perch fishing we always catch some very nice rainbow. It is not unusual at all to take a few 15- to 16-inch rainbow through the ice. It is also planted with kokanee and there is good bass fishing here later in the spring, too. With each passing day the fishing opportunities continue to expand.
