We’re sure off to a great start this spring, if you’re an angler. There are a whole bunch of great fishing opportunities out there, and I got a chance to get and check out a couple of them recently. I got on board with Shane Magnuson and a buddy of his, Richard from Leavenworth, for a morning trip to Lake Chelan. Shane wanted to see if he could catch a king salmon on the lake, and if they weren’t around, we could try for some lakers. Well, the kings weren’t around, but the lakers were willing. Shane dropped out gear to within ten feet of bottom and away we went. The first fish weighed over 12 pounds and we hooked six and landed four in about a hour’s fishing. We are all anxious to get back out on Chelan and keep up the hunt for kings. We know they are out there we just need to find ‘em. The next day my wife Eileen and I traveled east to the Quincy Wildlife Area to check out the lakes that opened in March. We got some great reports, especially at Quincy Lake. We checked out Martha and Caliche lakes, near George, too, and found the fishing best at Caliche.
