Some of the lakes that open in March are special, quality lakes that are known to produce especially large trout, are managed with selective fishing rules with a one fish bag limit. In the Quincy Wildlife Area is Dusty Lake. The lake is reached via a steep, one-mile trail, between Quincy and Burke lakes. Dusty is known for large rainbow, brown and tiger trout. Rainbow checked last year ranged in size from 14 20 inches. Tiger trout have been in the lake for a few years now and the current state record, taken in 2008 weighed over 13 pounds. While anglers may not expect a tiger of this size to come from Dusty this year, there are some whoppers in the lake. Some other popular lakes are Lenice, Merry and Nunnally, which are near Beverly. These are also managed under selective fishing rules with a one fish bag limit. Lenice and Nunnally were each planted with 500 to 600 triploid rainbow last April and 2,000 brown and tiger trout fry last May. Catching should be good on the opener, with anglers each taking six to ten fish and the trout should be 15 to 21 inches or larger. I want to remind anglers that no bait is allowed on all of the lakes mentioned, and only single barbless hooks.
