If you’re a hunter in Washington State you need to submit a report on your hunting activity in 2008 by January, 31st for each black bear, deer, elk, or turkey tag purchased. Failing to submit a report can result in a fine. All hunters, whether successful or not are required to submit activity reports. Hunters who miss the activity report deadline must pay a $10.00 penalty before they can purchase a 2009 hunting license. To submit a report, hunters may call a toll-free line at (877) 945-3492, or on the internet by logging onto fishhunt.dfw.wa.gov. Hunters should be prepared to give the game management unit they hunted and their individual WILD identification number, which is printed on license documents. These reports are an important source of information to game managers in the state. On the fishing front, I ran into Scott West, owner of the Cove Resort at Fish Lake, and he told me that the ice remains very “iffy” on the lake. Anglers are fishing either off or near the dock at the resort, but few if any are venturing out on the ice. Rufus Woods Reservoir remains the biggest attraction to anglers at this time in the winter.
