By Dave Graybill

Fall run salmon are arriving in the mid Columbia in terrific numbers, and anglers are boating limit numbers of them from the White Bluffs stretch to Priest Rapids Dam. Everyone I’ve talked to that is fishing this area of the Columbia is singing its praises. Big crowds of anglers are packing the known holes and they are taking big numbers of fish. The Super Bait is still claiming its share of the fish, but back-tolled herring and wrapped Kwik Fish are also getting hits. At Vernita the King Hole is producing very well and anglers that venture upstream are finding fish in the know holes below the dam, the Hatchery Hole and others. Bright fall fish are arriving every day and excellent fishing is anticipated through the October 20th closure. I have also heard that there has been a spike in the action below Wells Dam and at Brewster. I am going to give below Wells a try soon. They are mostly summer fish here, but they are aggressive and tons of fun. I want to remind anglers that fishing for salmon above Priest Rapids Dam closes on the 15th of October, so better get in your licks soon. There are some fall fish available up here, and there are terrific numbers of steelhead on the way.
