Boy, am I excited. There is just so much going on with fishing in the region I just don’t which way to jump. I got a 27-pound king fishing from the Lund the other day below Wells Dam, and the fall-run Chinook are starting to show up in our area. The numbers are much, much better than last year, too. The steelhead numbers are also way up over last year. I talked with the area biologist the other day and he expects to see as many as three thousand more steelhead returning to the Upper Columbia and the tributaries this season. Wow. Not only that, the stream fishing is just plain excellent right now. The continued warm weather has the trout biting flies on our area’s rivers and small streams. I am going to get a chance to visit Curlew Lake and the Kettle again soon. The lake is noted for great fall fishing for rainbow trout and tiger muskie. I will be staying at Tiffany’s Resort there and getting the lowdown on how to catch ‘em. The Kettle River is nearby and I plan to rig up my fly rod with heavy leaders and get after some of the big fish I saw (and lost) on my last trip to this stream.
