It doesn’t really matter what type of fishing you prefer. The fishing is its usual fall best here in Central Washington. Right now the salmon fishing on the upper Columbia River is very good. From Brewster on down below Wells Dam anglers are taking fish in the mid-twenties, and the fish are really getting aggressive this time of year. Those who fish the Super Bait are scoring, and I like to switch to bait-wrapped plugs at this point in the season. The fishing further down stream, in the Wanapum and Priest Rapids stretch should really take off in the next week or two. Walleye fishing on area lakes is good to excellent. Both Banks Lake and Lake Roosevelt are great places to be for walleye in the early fall, and the smallmouth bass fishing is off the charts good, too. I am still getting in my licks on the rivers with my fly rod. I have fished the Methow, the San Poil, the Icicle and the Kettle recently and they were all producing trout at the season’s best rate. All of these rivers, except the Icicle can hold some real surprises in terms of big rainbow. The Methow also holds cutts and the Kettle cutts and browns, too.
