Steelheaders were out in force over the long weekend, and the best reports I got were from above Rocky Reach Dam. Shore anglers were catching fish and boat anglers faired poorly. Most of the fish were around 8 pounds. I gave Wells Dam a try and figured I would really have a ball. Not. I fished for three hours without a sniff, so I packed it in. I ran up to Pateros and found the docks and shoreline crowded with steelhead anglers. I didn’t see any action, and although my wife and I made a few casts near the bridge there, no steelies. I am going to blame it on the clear weather. I don’t know what else I can use as an excuse. After I got my Lund tucked away, we ran up to Rufus Woods, and found the parking lots overflowing with angling and duck hunting boats. There weren’t any boats coming off the water at the time, so we ran up to Brandt’s Landing to check it out. There were people in all the public access points, and the anglers I talked two had two rainbow and a triploid. Not bad for their first trip to Rufus.
