I want to remind everyone that the Molson Ice Fishing Derby is coming up this weekend. The ice is thick, and the trout being caught are big. A 4-pounder was landed just the other day. You can bet that the community of Molson is busy getting everything ready for visiting anglers. There will be breakfast served at the Molson Grange Hall to start the day, and a lunch provided the Sitzmark Ski Hill. Registration begins at seven and fishing is from eight until one. You can register prior to the event by visiting the Oroville Chamber of Commerce website at orovillewachamber.com. Dress warm, it will be very chilly in the Highlands. The following weekend is the Ice Fishing Tournament at Bonaparte Lake. Attendance at this one has been very high, with thousands of dollars in cash and prizes up for grabs. You can register at the lodge the morning of the event or by clicking on the address on the Bonaparte Lake Facebook page. Bonaparte Lake was included in a video on ice fishing lakes I did a couple of years ago. It’s on the Dave Graybill YouTube channel with the title: “Ice Fishing at Curlew, Bonaparte, Palmer and Patterson lakes”.
