I like to find places where anglers can fish from shore and have the opportunity to catch some nice trout this time of year. One of those is Medicare Beach on Potholes Reservoir. The beach is on the east side of Potholes, and there is a park here with vault toilets and picnic benches. People will walk down to the shore, set up their rods and sit back in their lawn chairs and wait for a trout to come by and pick up their bait. There are some very nice rainbow in Potholes and they cruise this shore all through the winter, and anglers can reach them from the bank right up until it freezes. I always take a couple of rod holders, and use either Power Bait, a shrimp and marshmallow combo or a nightcrawler and marshmallow combo and cast as far as I can for the trout. Some days are better than others but landing a rainbow of 3 or 4 pounds is very possible. This is one of the things that you can do in the winter to get outside. We have many clear and sunny days in the winter, and this is a great way to enjoy them.
