With the tremendous fishing opportunities right now on the upper Columbia River, many people will be visiting our area to fish for the first time this season. It is important to know that when they buy a license on line that they will not receive a catch record card when they are issued a temporary license. Although they just need a freshwater license to fish for salmon on the Columbia River, they do need a catch record card. I have had people on my boat show up with the license they got on line and are surprised when I tell them they also need to “punch their catch”. They didn’t have a catch record card and couldn’t legally fish. They needed to go to a local sporting goods store to get one. Sometimes a new angler will go to a sporting goods store to buy their license and whoever sells them the freshwater license doesn’t ask them if they want a catch record card. Don’t forget to ask for one. Nothing can spoil a great day of fishing for sockeye or Chinook salmon on the Columbia River, or Lake Wenatchee than not having the necessary license and catch record card.
