By Eric Granstrom

I'm Eric Granstrom. I've lived in the Wenatchee Valley for 35-years. And in all those winters, I don't remember more than a handful of times when the temperatures dipped to the negatives like they have the last week. The bitter cold has caused lots or problems for folks with freezing pipes and failing furnaces. I hope you've been able to stay warm. The good news is that this shot of cold weather is creating a coat of ice on lakes most hardy anglers like to fish for perch this time of year. I was walking past my workbench in the shop the other day and spied my bucket full of ice fishing gear I still haven't used. I followed the suggestions of a fishing friend last January and purchased some Seagar Red Label fluorocarbon 4-pound test fishing line and a pair of Black Ice UL St. Croix rods and Black Betty round free-fall reels. Just after they arrived, the weather warmed and I got tied up with work. I loaned the gear to a friend to go trying through the ice at Fish Lake. He caught 15 perch with my gear, which I hope to use this year. Until next time, Good Fishing!
