For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. You'll have to forgive me if my mind isn't on fishing right now. Being an outdoorsman who loves all forms of pursuits, I can't help but turn my attention to hunting deer right now. The modern firearm deer season in Washington opens this weekend. Actually, I won't be hunting because I chose to go archery for deer and elk this year. But just because I won't be out there packing my Browning .308 looking for a 3-point-minimum mule deer doesn't mean I won't be thinking about it. Some of my fondest memories are this time of year, especially at deer camp. There's nothing like the Friday night before the opener, standing around a roaring, crackling fire as the plans are cemented for the next day's hunt. The scouting has been done. Bucks are located. Now it's time for all the work and preparation to come down to being lucky. Of course, for me and my family, deer camp is much more than meat hanging on the pole. It's about the comradery and spending quality time in nature. As they say, the fun stops and the work starts as soon as you pull the trigger. Until next time, Good Hunting!
