By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. There's nothing like a campfire. I read that fire restrictions on several public lands are coming off this weekend, which makes it OK to have a campfire. Perfect timing considering the colder weather and the need for a little extra warmth and deer and elk camp. Ever since I was a kid, a fire was the biggest thing I looked forward to when we'd go camping. I vividly remember squatting next to Dad while he crumpled up pieces of newspaper and took the kindling to make a teepee around it. He'd get the stack just the way he wanted it before lighting the paper. I'd watch as the fire would slowly consume the printed paper as a lazy trail of smoke rose through the cedar. Inevitably, the first crack would put a smile on my face as I'd turn to Dad and look at him like he was a wizard. Soon, the one crack would become a symphony of pops and snaps as flames leaped into the air. I'd carefully reach out and rub my hands in front of the flames like I'd seen the adults do. To this day, to me, there's nothing better than a campfire. Until next time, Good Fishing!
