It’s just a week away. The March 1st opener of several lakes in Grant County. The most popular are Burke and Quincy lakes in the Quincy Wildlife Area, and Martha and Caliche which are accessed via the frontage road at the town of George. There is good shore access at all of these lakes, and boat launches on Burke and Quincy. Due to the continued COVID restrictions, the popular trout derby sponsored by the Quincy Chamber of Commerce will not take place this year. Also opening on March 1st are some lakes that are popular with fly fishers. Dusty Lake is reached via a trail near Burke Lake. Lenice and Nunnally lakes, are located near the town of Beverly. Lake Lenore, which is inhabited with Lahontan cutthroat is just north of Soap Lake opens on March 1st and Dry Falls Lake which is just north of the State Park at Park Lake. All of these fly fishing lakes have selective gear rules with a minimum size restriction of 18 inches and a bag limit of one fish. I will be providing some tips on how to fish these lakes in my Weekly Column in the Spokane Exchange newspaper, so pick one up.

Popular with fly fishers, Dry Falls Lake is one of the most scenic of our high desert lakes. It opens on March 1st.
