The clear and mostly calm weather last weekend really got the ball rolling on the fishing front in the Columbia Basin. I was at the I-90 Bridge last Thursday, and although I didn’t get a bite while trout fishing, a young man landed a 3-pound bass on his first cast right next to me. I saw a couple of cars parked near the overpass on the Parker Horn on Moses Lake, and when I stopped, I met two anglers with two walleye, and one was at least 5 pounds. They got their fish on tube jigs of all things. When I drove to Potholes and passed the parking area on Road M the parking lot was packed with boats. I drove down to the water at one of the Public Fishing accesses and Lind Coulee was crowded with boats. Anglers were out chasing walleye and bass. It appears that spring fishing for warm water species is well under way in the Basin. I am planning to try for kokanee on Lake Chelan, and Banks Lake later this week for walleye. The reports I am getting indicate I should have a great day.
