The Quincy Valley Tourism Association’s annual Trout Derby on Burke Lake was very successful this year. There were 250 anglers signed up for the derby, including 61 in the Youth division. This year the prizes were handed out on the basis on the longest fish, instead of the tagged fish that were turned in. As a result there were more happy anglers at the awards ceremony. The Grand Prize was a 12-foot Smoker Craft boat, motor and trailer, provided by Bob Feil Boats and Motors, and it was awarded through a drawing. The anglers with the five longest fish measured in the Adult division each received a raffle ticket. The names were put in a jar and the winning ticket holder won the boat. This year it was Amie Durfee of Quincy. There was a big crowd at derby headquarters to congratulate her. Everyone that participated had a great time and is looking forward to next year’s event. It also looks like the QVTA will be holding their Pike Minnow Derby again this coming May. I will have the dates for you pretty soon. I heard that there will be $18,000.00 in cash and prizes up for grabs at this year’s Pike Minnow Derby.
