By Dave Graybill

Anglers have been chasing kokanee on Lake Chelan and Lake Roosevelt all winter, and some are now looking for walleye. The walleye fishing on Potholes Reservoir has satisfied hardy anglers through the winter months, and now people are looking to Banks Lake to scratch their itch. I fished Banks Lake on Monday with Austin Moser, of Austins Northwest Adventures, and Mike McKee and we had a pretty good day. We spent some time at the north end near Coulee Playland and then ran down to Barker Flats. Here we found several boats trolling for walleye and saw them catch some fish. Moser moved us around on the flats looking for fish and then decided to fish where his way points indicated that he caught fish in the past. Things picked up dramatically. We wound up with 18 walleye and three fat perch in the fish box at the end of the day. We caught most of them on Kokabow willow leaf spinners, or Smile Blades and Slow Death hooks. The color that worked best was blue, but purple and black also caught fish. He found most of the walleye in the 45- to 50-foot depth, and was trolling at 1 mph.
