By Dave Graybill

Many anglers are eager for ice fishing to get going, so I ran down to Moses Lake to confirm that people are fishing on the ice down there. Sure enough, when I arrived I saw a big crowd of anglers. The biggest group was about 200 yards up lake from the I-90 Bridge. There was a smaller group gathered in the shadow of the bridge. I would say that there were at least 50 people on Moses Lake last Wednesday and I expect the crowd to at least double this weekend. Most are after the jumbo perch that can be caught through the ice, and there are a fair number of walleye and a few trout taken over the winter season, too. As usual I advise caution whenever going ice fishing. Conditions can change quickly. I hope that we have more cold nights to keep the ice thick enough to support anglers. Moses Lake is one of the best ice fishing opportunities in the region. I stopped at Rocky Ford Creek briefly on my way to Moses Lake. It was only 31 degrees and there were just a few anglers on the stream. I watched one hook a nice fish in the short time I was there.
