By Dave Graybill

Summer run Chinook salmon fishing is far from over in North Central Washington, but many anglers are already planning for the fall season. We have had a particularly strong return of summer fish, and areas like Chelan Falls, Wells Dam and the Brewster Pool continue to provide good action. Some anglers are already fishing the lower Columbia River at Buoy 10 and will soon be moving further upstream. On September 1st fall salmon fishing will open in two very popular areas of the Columbia and Snake rivers. The Columbia will open from the railroad bridge between Burbank and Kennewick upstream to the first power line crossing upstream of the navigation light on the point of Sacawejawea State Park. The Snake River will be open from the mouth to the Oregon State line. The upriver bright forecast is for over 590,000 with a significant portion expected to return to the Snake River. The daily limit in the Washington portion of the Snake is six adipose fin clipped adults and six jacks. Anglers must cease fishing when three hatchery steelhead have been taken. Harvest is allowed seven days a week. For more information please refer to the WDFW news release.
