Good news for anglers that are fishing for summer-run Chinook on the upper Columbia River. The previous forecast for 73,000 of them returning to the upper Columbia River has now been boosted to over 100,000, the largest since the 50s. Anglers have already been enjoying good fishing for summer-runs and this means there will be very good fishing for many weeks to come. A very large number of them have already passed over Wells Dam and due to very high water temperatures in the Okanogan River are staying in the Brewster Pool. If you haven’t ever fished the Brewster Salmon Derby, this would be a good year to do it. In addition to the excellent numbers of summer-run Chinook there are huge numbers of sockeye in the Pool. The Brewster Derby will take place from July 31st to August 2nd and there are a limited number of tickets available. I would encourage you to visit their web site at www.brewstersalmonderby.com, and get your ticket right away. There will be big money awarded at this year’s derby for summer-run Chinook and there will be a category for sockeye, too. Don’t miss this derby. Fishing will be fantastic this year.
