If you are more inclined to chase walleye instead of our summer salmon, you may want to consider a trip to Potholes Reservoir. The spectacular fishing that took place here last season hasn’t slowed down a bit. Anglers are enjoying consistent fishing for larger walleye than they caught last year. I decided to try Banks Lake when the new size and bag limits changed on the 1st of July. Anglers are now allowed to take eight walleye per day, with a minimum size of 12 inches, and one over 22 inches. My fishing partners were Gary Feil of Bob Feil Boats, and Dennis Beich. Beich decided he needed to show off a bit after our last walleye trip to Moses Lake, and not only caught the most walleye, but the biggest. He did the same on smallmouth bass, and to top it off landed a 21-inch rainbow trout. Walleye fishing had been excellent on Banks Lake but, according to the fish checker we talked to, had slowed considerably. He is sure the bite will heat up again when the weather cools and the full moon wanes. I am sure it will and I am sure I will be back for more walleye and smallmouth fishing at Banks this summer.
