If you are a fan of steelhead fishing you will want to weigh in on the proposal for a special license plate that would support recovery efforts of steelhead state wide. To move ahead on the creation of such a license plate, the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife must show that at least 3,500 people would be interested in buying the plates, which would be available for cars, trucks, motorcycles and trailers. People interested in buying the steelhead plates can submit a signature and indicate the number of plates they would likely purchase on the department’s web site. Right now you can find the information on how to submit a signature right on the Home Page of the department’s web site, at wdfw.wa.gov. Submitting a signature is not an obligation to buy a plate. Currently, the initial price of the special wildlife-themed plates ranges from $54 to $72, depending on the vehicle, in addition to regular license fees. This is great way to provide financial support for steelhead recovery efforts, and to “advertise” your commitment to Washington’s State fish. Please visit the department’s web site right away and submit your signature so the legislature can consider the adoption of the plate.
