I am getting reports of good fishing for steelhead in the main stem Columbia near Bridgeport. Anglers who are braving the roads and fishing bobbers and jigs in this stretch are catching fair numbers of steelhead and a few nice triploids, which they are able to keep this year. Trollers working out of Spring Canyon and Keller are scoring on kokanee and rainbow, as they will this time of year. The kokanee and rainbow are in the upper water column and can be taken flat lining plugs off side planers and even on downriggers run shallow. I also hear that there are walleye being landed on Potholes Reservoir. The best way to get these fish in the winter is to cast blade baits and when you get one really work the spot over. There is usually more than one hanging out in the area. I am trying to get down to Rocky Ford again with my fly rod. Fishing is especially good on the Ford this year, with many big rainbow being taken. The high water is actually a benefit and the weeds should be clearing out now, too.
