By Dave Graybill

Well, I finally got a chance to fish Lake Roosevelt. On Monday, I met Mike McKee in Wenatchee and we traveled to Coulee Dam to meet Austin Moser and Daniel Booth. We put the boat in at Spring Canyon. The ramp was clear and the water high and to our surprise the skies were clearing, instead of the low overcast we were expecting. There was just a slight breeze on the water. We ran down toward the dam and went to work. We had some plugs way out behind the boat, two downriggers fishing shallow and a side planer to boot. The downriggers were getting the fish. The action wasn’t fast, but they were producing with a dodger and a fly that Moser had tied. At one point we switched to blades made by Kokabow Fishing tackle that McKee had along and that improved out bite. We got several nice rainbow and an 18-inch kokanee not too far from the dam. We then ran up to a bay below the Keller Ferry and had better trout action. The side planer, with a Flicker Shad attracted some nice fish. We ended up with 15 rainbow and a kokanee. I think the clear and calm weather worked against us. Sure was nice, though.
