By Dave Graybill

After a flurry of great reports on fishing at Rufus Woods Reservoir I got a tale of frustration from a group of anglers from Manson. They had high hopes as they were hitting Rufus Woods during the week, expecting some decent river current to spur the bite. However, the river remained calm and the bite just didn’t develop. According to my source the tribe surveyed seven boats and found just three fish among the anglers aboard. That’s the way it goes at Rufus. If you get current you get fish. When the current is dead, so is the fishing. My source did say they had one really big fish on, that they hooked while trolling along the can line above the dam, but they lost it before they could get it in the net. So they at least had a good one that got away story. The good news on the horizon is that the usual fear of frozen water for the March 1st opener at the Quincy area lakes shouldn’t be a problem this year. I expect huge crowds for the first weekend down there and excellent fishing. When I get the forecast, I will share it.
