By Dave Graybill

Fishing for big triploid rainbow is definitely improving. I am now getting consistent reports of not red hot action, but good catches of these trout. Trollers working the can line near the boat launch just above Chief Joseph Dam and anglers fishing from the shore at the net pens are hooking much better numbers of fish and I just talked to an angler that put a 13-pounder in his boat. His party also had a 10-pounder and finished their limit with triploids weigh from 5 to 7 pounds. Bob Fately at the Triangle Shell also reported some good catches of fish to 10 and 11 pounds by anglers anchoring near the net pens. He also said that fish are getting active and that casting Rooster Tails and other lures to shore is working again. Another lure that is working is the Rapala, and the chartreuse green and perch patterns are working the best. I also heard that a very large walleye was taken on Rufus Woods. The word I got was that the fish was 37 inches long and may have weighed 20 pounds! I guess the fish was taken to a certified scale, so I’ll let you know if it going to make the record books.
