The “Fishing with the Wild” day at the Cove Resort on Fish Lake turned out to be a real blast. The team bus, full of players, coaches and kids were greeted by a whole pack of raccoons as they made their way to the picnic area that had been set up by Scott and Nadine West and their family and friends. After some introductions, and a big thank you for Hooked on Toys for the rods and reels and the Cove for providing our fishing boats and rigging the rods, we trooped aboard the pontoon boats and went out fishing. The day was cloudy and cold, but the rain and wind that visited the lake the day before held off, and everyone had a great time trolling around and catching rainbow. One of the many highlights of the day was when one of the youngsters strutted down the dock to the picnic area where everyone was gathered, carrying a 5-pound rainbow, and announced that “now he was the Fishing Magician!” All the players did a great job helping out the kids, and I even recruited a couple of the parents I knew to run a boat help, too. It is something that I am sure that the Wenatchee Wild will repeat.
