Good news for steelhead anglers is the expansion of the allowed fishing area on the Methow River. Now open is the area from the second power line crossing upstream of Pateros to the first Highway 153 Bridge. The expansion includes the famed Miller Hole, and it will be packed with fish. The Miller Hole has been closed to fishing for several years, to allow adequate escapement of wild fish up the Methow River. Sufficient wild steelhead have moved upstream to allow the taking of adipose fin-clipped hatchery steelhead from this fish laden area. Anglers who would like to learn to tie steelhead flies are invited to come to the Chelan County PUD Auditorium on Wednesday, October 28th at 5:30 p.m. The Wenatchee Valley Fly Fishers will help people tie three steelhead flies. There will be a $5 charge for materials, but anglers will be leaving with three, fishing ready flies. This would be a great year to learn to tie steelhead flies, as the opportunity to catch steelhead on flies is the probably the best in history, in terms of the number of fish available in our area streams. For questions anglers may call Steve Olsen at (509) 670-1993.
