Steelhead fishing under clear blue skies and with warm weather continues to be the rule here in Central Washington. That’s the good news. The great news is that fishing will get even better when we get some rain to move fish further upstream and some current to get them active. For those who prefer trout fishing, there is some of the best fishing of the year available on many of the lakes in our region. Jameson Lake is open through the end of October and should offer terrific trout fishing. Trolling Carey Special flies is a favorite method of taking, big late-season rainbow here, and there is lots of room for shore anglers who want to fish Power Bait and the Jameson Sandwich—a salmon egg and marshmallow combo. Fish Lake, near Lake Wenatchee really comes into bloom in the fall, too. Both with fall colors and an excellent trout bite. Fly anglers should mark your calendars for Saturday, October 17th and plan to see Skip Morris, famed fly tyer, at the Yakima River Fly Shop in Cle Elum.
