Steelhead season is what is on everyone’s mind, and anglers will be fishing soon. There are plenty of other fishing opportunities in the region, though. I just talked to someone that tried Fish Lake for perch and had a ball. He put over 40 in the bucket in less than an hour. Some measured up to 11 inches, which is a nice perch in anyone’s book. I fished for perch at Fish Lake earlier this summer and a good meal of fresh perch is hard to beat. People who like to catch and eat bluegill should consider a trip to Roses Lake, near Lake Chelan. The bluegill bite there is excellent and they are big enough to be worth filleting. Some other locations to look for excellent panfish and bass angling this fall is Potholes Reservoir. Both here and some of the lakes to the south offer great fishing in the fall. Hutchinson is a particularly good pond for panfish and bass. I should mention that it is too early to put away the salmon gear. There is great fishing for fall-run salmon going on below Wanapum and Priest Rapids dams.
