For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. It's the time of year when families get together to celebrate the holidays. For the Granstrom's, that usually means tons of kitchen time, leaning against the countertops with libation in hand, telling hunting and fishing stories. I called my Dad last night and asked his favorite fishing memory. After several moments of "let's see" and "gee, that's a tough one", he said there are two. One was fishing the lower Columbia with Shane Magnuson when Mom was in the later stages of dementia. The other is a trip he shared with Mom fishing the San Juan Islands. It was back in the 90's when they were out fishing off my brother's 21-foot Olympic. He said they'd been fishing most of the incoming tide with little success and moved to a spot Dad said he'd never fished before off Strawberry Island. Not long after he put the downriggers down to 80-feet with flashers and cut-plug herring, a whale of a fish grabbed hold. It was a 33-pound white king salmon that they both took time reeling in. No photos, not video, just a great memory. Here's to you and your families story time during the holidays. Until next time, Good Fishing!
