As many of you know, my wife Eileen and I have hosted several trips, taking groups to destinations in Belize and on the Sea of Cortez. When COVID hit we suspended these trips and really missed the travel. I decided to take my wife back to one of our favorite places on the Sea of Cortez, which is Loreto. There are direct flights to this small city in the southern Baja, which makes it easy to get there. Once again we stayed at the Mision Hotel which is a short walk to the main downtown area for dining and the marina where the fishing boats leave. Fishing is a huge attraction to Loreto and has been for decades. We traveled at this time of year to be able to view the grey whales that enter the bays on the Pacific side of the Baja peninsula. We rented a car this time and drove to Puerto Adolfo Lopez Mateos, where we observed a grey whale with her calf. This was the highlight of the trip for Eileen. Mine was the day of fishing I had. Last Thursday I landed six big yellowtail, weighing from 18 to 25 pounds. These brutes really wore me out!
I landed six of these yellowtail fishing out of Loreto, BCS Mexico. These guys really wore me out!
