By Eric Granstrom

For FishingMagician.com, I'm Eric Granstrom. As a 3-year old, I was just tall enough to see out the front window of our house. My mouth was even with the wooden sill, which I gnawed on while I impatiently waited. This afternoon drama was my entire existence. Me, staring out the window waiting for my brother to come home on his bicycle from school. You see, Shawn was my hero. How could he not? He was 8 and seemed like a giant. He could hurl a baseball with the speed of a bullet and throw a football like Johnny Unitas. I wanted to be just like my older brother. Then our brotherly world was interrupted by my baby sister. Yuck! 7-years later, we learned Shawn had muscular dystrophy. At the time, he played football, basketball and golf and was about to take off as a high school sophomore. Despite this tragic news, Shawn pushed forward, defying doctor's predictions. He played golf in college and worked as a logger and commercial fisherman. He did everything they said he couldn't do and still does. Today is my hero's birthday. Sisu my brother! Keep keepin' on. I love ya. Until next time, Good Fishing!
